Ink Refill Instructions HP 950, 950 XL, HP 951, 951 XL

Please read the instructions carefully before refilling.

You need the following supplies:

a drill (3mm diameter)
syringes with needles
plugs for the filler openings

Recommended amount of ink:

black starter cartridge: approx. 38ml
coloured starter cartridge: approx. 18ml
black XL cartridge: approx. 85ml
coloured XL cartridge: approx. 35ml

Preparation:

Hold your HP 950, 951 cartridge as shown in picture 1. Drill a filler opening at the lower guide rail. We recommend a 3mm hole in order to be able to close the hole with our plugs after refilling.

Refilling the coloured HP 951 cartridge:

Attention: Pictures 3 and 5 show how the cartridge looks inside. Do not disassemble the cartridge yourself! You would not be able to reassemble it tightly.

Draw as much ink as recommended into a syringe. Insert the needle into the cartridge carefully (picture 2). Make sure that the needle does not puncture the plastic bag inside the cartridge (see picture 3). This bag is not filled, it only compensates the pressure inside the cartridge while printing. Now carefully insert the ink. After refilling the cartridge, close the filler opening with one of our sealing plugs (pictures 4 and 5). Make sure that the sealing plug does not protrude from the guide rail. Otherwise you will not be able to reinsert the cartridge into the print head.

Refilling the black HP 950 cartridge:

Attention: Pictures 6 to 10 show an open cartridge in order to illustrate the inside. Do not disassemble the cartridge yourself!

To refill the black cartridge, proceed as with the coloured one. Drill a 3mm filler opening into the lower guide rail of the cartridge (picture 6). Carefully insert the filled syringe with needle into the cartridge (picture 7). Make sure that the needle does not puncture the plastic bag inside the cartridge. This bag is not filled, it only compensates the pressure inside the cartridge while printing. Then close the filler opening with a sealing plug. Make sure that the sealing plug does not protrude from the guide rail. Otherwise you will not be able to reinsert the cartridge into the print head.

Pictures 9 and 10 show the inside of the black HP 950 cartridge. Although the black cartridge has 2 ink chambers and 2 plastic bags, you can fill both chambers. The partition between the ink chambers is perforated in order to balance the filling level.

Characteristics of HP 950, HP 951 cartridges:

HP 950, HP 951 cartridges are equipped with a newly developed chip which cannot be reset yet. However, you can deactivate or ignore the filling level indicator and continue printing as with almost any printer.
