Pelikan ärgert Markenhersteller
Pelikan kopiert seit Jahren erfolgreich Druckerpatronen. Was den Originalherstellern ein Dorn im Auge ist, freut die Konsumenten - sie sparen mit den Pelikan-Produkten bis zu 50 Prozent.
Neun von zehn Schweizern kennen Pelikan. Zum ersten Kontakt kommt es in aller Regel bereits in der Primarschule. Es gibt wohl fast niemanden, der nicht mit dem blauen Pelikan-Füllfederhalter seine ersten Schreibversuche unternommen hat; nicht ohne sich dabei regelmässig beim Patronenwechseln Hände und Kleider zu bekleckern. Praktischerweise liefert die Firma mit dem Tintenkiller auch gleich das probate Gegenmittel. Aber das weltweit tätige Unternehmen versteht es, auch in den manchmal tristen Büroalltag Farbe zu bringen. Mit einem Pelikan-Textmarker werden Dokumente schön bunt, und der langweiligste Bericht scheint mit ein paar farbigen Diagrammen versehen gleich an Bedeutung zu gewinnen.
Billiger Drucker, teure Tinte
Damit Fotos und Grafiken auch auf Papier in kräftigen Farben erstrahlen, braucht es qualitativ hochwertige Druckerpatronen. Der Haken bei Tintenstrahldruckern sind allerdings die immens hohen Tintenkosten. Das Geschäftsmodell der Druckerhersteller besteht seit Jahren darin, die Kunden mit billigen Geräten zu ködern, um ihnen später über die hohen Patronenpreise das Geld aus der Tasche zu ziehen.
«Umgerechnet auf einen Liter bezahlt der Kunde im Laden für Originaltinte zwischen 1500 und 9000 Franken», rechnet Arno Alberty, Verkaufsleiter bei Pelikan, vor. Im Durchschnitt zahlt der Kunde über 4000 Franken für einen Liter Tinte, dafür bekäme er auch eine Flasche Dom Perignon, Jahrgang 1947.
Diese Hochpreisstrategie ermöglicht es Drittanbietern wie Pelikan, mit billigeren Patronen ein Stück vom lukrativen Kuchen für sich abzuschneiden. Allein in Europa geht es im Bereich Druckerpatronen um einen Markt mit einem Gesamtvolumen von rund 7,5 Milliarden Franken.
Forschungsstandort Wetzikon
Die Tintenpatronen entwickelt Pelikan seit 2007 in Wetzikon. Das Innere des Technologiezentrums erinnert etwas an die Werkstatt von Daniel Düsentrieb: Surrende Maschinen mischen die Tinte, im Hochregallager türmen sich alte Drucker meterhoch, und im Chemielabor reiht sich Tintenfläschchen an Tintenfläschchen. Rund 50 der weltweit 2500 Mitarbeiter sind in Wetzikon tätig. «Wir beschäftigen uns hier ausschliesslich mit der Entwicklung. Alle Experten, die gesamte Elektronik und Mikroelektronik sowie das gesamte Know-how sind vor Ort gebündelt», erklärt Thorsten Lifka, Leiter der Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilung. Writing enthusiasts love the razor-sharp typeface that can be achieved on fountain pen-suitable paper and the pleasant shading of the Write & Draw writing ink. Calligraphers can create the finest hairlines and impressive flourishing elements, while urban sketchers can draw precise outlines.
The ink dries waterproof in a very short time and can then be painted over with another shade of Octopus Write & Draw ink or watercolour. It is eraser-proof and most of the colours are also highlighter-proof.
Both pure and diluted with water, Octopus Write & Draw ink is excellent for colouring. Used undiluted, the waterproof ink convinces with its opacity. The many colours of Octopus drawing ink can be mixed with each other, but also with water. In this way, countless colour shades can be achieved for beautiful watercolour effects.
Unlike most other waterproof inks, Octopus Write & Draw can be used in a fountain pen without hesitation. However, care should be taken not to let the fountain pen dry out. We therefore recommend that you rinse and clean your writing instrument carefully after use to prevent the ink from drying up accidentally.
