How to fill the alternative Fill In™ refillable inkjet cartridges? Our instruction illustrates the process for filling refillable cartridges which are suitable to replace Canon PGI-570 and CLI-571 inkjet caertridges. You have the choice to watch our video to that topic and You also can read the manual containing useful hints. All material used in that refill instruction is available at OCTOPUS®.
The kit of refillables for Canon PGI-570 and CLI-571 is empty when You receive the delivery. The filling of the cartridges is quite simple and can be done as shown in the following explanation. We recommend to use a set of dedicated refill inks, for example the one made by Octopus Fluids®. From our own testing we know that most universal inks do not provide satisfying print results or in the worst case may harm Your print head.
On the refillable cartridge´s upper side there is the fill port for the refill ink. Opposite to the fill port on the bottom side the ink port is located. When receiving the refillable cartridge for Canon PGI-570 and CLI-571 the ink port is closed by an orange cap. Make sure that this cap is covering the ink port when filling the cartridge with ink. So You avoid any ink from dripping outr of the ink port.
Also on the bottom sideof each refillable cartridge there is an autoreset chip. Similar to the original cartridges Canon PGI-570 and CLI-571 the ink level related messages and warnings are created by the cartridge´s chip. The chip on the refillables has autoreset functionality. That means after receiving the warning message "ink depleted / cartridge empty" You can set back the ink level for that cartridge back to full by taking the cartridge out of Your printer and installing it back again after making sure that there is sufficient ink inside the cartridge.
What is the right quantity of refill ink for the refillables alternative to PGI-570 and CLI-571?
The thick, black cartridge for PGI-570 takes in an amount of up to 20 ml black, pigmented refill ink. The thin cartridges for CLI-571 are suitable for 10 ml refill ink.
In the following pictures You can see the filling of a magenta CLI-571 with 10 ml of refill ink. Take that quantity of refill ink into a syringe and open the fill port on the cartridge. The rear ink tank does not take in the full quantity of 10 ml, so it is necessary to fill in the 10 ml step by step. Give for example 5 ml of the 10 ml into the rear tank and then keep waitng for a while. The sponge in the main ink chamber will soak in the ink from the rear tank. But this requires some time. To speed that process it helps to open the air port on the cartridge. Therefore remove the tape from the upper side.
When the ink from the rear tank is absorbed the sponge You can add the remaining ink from the syringe into refillable cartridge using the fill port.
As this process takes some time we recommend to fill the whole kit of refillable cartridges at the same time, When waiting for a cartridge to soak the ink into the sponge You can work on another cartridge.
When the full amount of refill ink is in the respective refillable cartridge You can close the fill port again using the previously removed silicon plug. Open the ink port by taking off the orange cap. We recommend to do above a piece of paper towel. It may occur that some drops of ink leak from the ink port, please do not let them stain Your working area.
Make sure that air port on each refillable cartridge is open. Now You can install the refillables into Your printer. It does not matter in which order You place the cartridges into their respective positions inside the print head compartement. The cartridges click in position with a hearable sound and when the positioning is right and acontact has been made the cartridge´s LED starts shining red.
Your printer is ready again for printing. It may take 1 or 2 pages to establish a proper flow of ink again.
