Refill Instructions Canon PGI-1500, PGI-2500 Ink Cartridges for the Maxify series

To refill the Canon PGI-1500 and PGI-2500 we use the cartridge´s ink port. It is not necessary to open the cartridges or to make any additional openings. To fill these cartridge models by the ink port You need to have a refill syringe with a volume of 50 to 60 ml and our ECO-Fill refill tool.

The used refill inks have a real  big impact on the result of the refill. The original ink in the PGI-1500 and PGI-2500 cartridges are pigmented, so please make sure to work with high quality, pigmented refill inks only.

The cartridges take in the following quantity of refill ink:

PGI-1500 black = 35 ml refill ink pigmented
PGI-1500 color = 12 ml refill ink pigmented (cyan, magenta, yellow)
PGI-2500 black = 70 ml refill ink pigmented
PGI-2500 color = 20 ml refill ink pigmented (cyan, magenta, yellow)

Take the quantity of refill ink that matches Your cartridge model into the refill syringe and mount the refill tool on the syringe. Place the empty Canon Maxify cartridge on its rear end, the ink port on the front side has to point upwards. Fit the refill tool´s tip into ink port. In the ink port there is a seal, when pressing in the tip You can feel a little resistance. The refill tool goes in 1 to 2 cm.

It is important to bring in the refill ink step-by-step:

Inside the cartride there is a thin and sensitive plastic bag. Into that bag the ink is filled. When You receive a PGI-1500, PGI-2500 cartridge fresh from Canon this bag is basically free of air and the ink port as well as the air port are sealed by plastic foils. The bag in the empty cartridge contains air that entered the bag to replace the ink consumed by printing. The air port on the front is connected to an opening located in the middle of the cartridge´s side wall.
The process to get the refill ink into the cartridge is the following: Do not just press the refill ink into the cartridge. First pull out the syringe´s plunger and extract 5ml to 10ml of air and after that push 5ml of refill ink in Your PGI-1500, PGI-2500. Repeat that until the full quanitity of refill ink is brought into the cartridge.

When your PGI-1500, PGI-2500 cartridge is refilled with the right quanity of ink we recommend to remove as much as possible air from the inner plastic bag right before You place back the cartridge into the Maxify printer. By doing so the cartridge comes as close as possible to the original condition when delivered by Canon. Again press the refill tool´s tip into the ink port and pull the plunger of the syringe up. There is no air inside the bag anymore when ink appears in the syringe. Stop by then and set back the cartridge into your printer.

Please pay attention to: If You intend to store or to transport the refilled cartridge please make sure to clode the ink port and the air port. Without any plugs or similar closures these openings are not really leakproof. It may happen that ink drips out of the ink port when it is not closed properly. For safety transport or store these Canon Maxify cartridges the front side with ink port and air port pointing upwards.
