Refill Instructions for Kyocera TK-590, FS-C5250

Preparations before refilling:

 You will need the following:

  • Toner for Kyocera TK-590 black
  • a toner chip
  • a soldering iron
  • textile adhesive tape

It may take a while for the soldering iron to reach its working temperature. Meanwhile you can remove the cartridge from your printer. When the soldering iron has reached its working temperature (275°C) you can melt a filler opening into the cartridge (picture 1).

Afterwards deburr the hole thoroughly and make sure that no plastic splinter gets into the hole. Before refilling the toner cartridge, you should pour out the rest of the toner powder or exhaust it with an aspirator for toner powders. Otherwise the physical and chemical characteristics of the old and the new toner powders could lead to a formation of clots.

Refilling the Kyocera TK-590, FS-C 5250 cartridge:

Shake the toner bottle circularly so that the toner powder seems to be floating. Afterwards, screw the funnel onto the bottle and carefully fill the toner into the cartridge (picture 2). After refilling you can seal the melted filler opening with an apropriate piece of textile adhesive tape (picture 3). The filler opening has to be absolutely leak-free. Through patting it over a white piece of paper, you can check the impermeability. There should not trickle any toner out of the opening.

After you have refilled the cartridge the toner chip has to be changed. It monitors the filling level and signals thrustworthy if you have to refill the cartridge again. The chip has to be changed after every refilling.

Exchanging the chip for Kyocera TK-590, FS-C 5250:

Kyocera cartridges are equipped with RFID-chips, which you usually can not see. At this cartridge type the chip is hidden below a small yellow label. Remove this label carefully for example with a small screwdriver and remove the chip (picture 4). Now insert the new chip (picture 5). Now your cartridge is refilled and you can reinsert it into your printer.
